Our process begins with dividing the original source photo into a grid or collection of cells. Each cell is analyzed for color, hue, saturation, contrast and then compared against the available submitted photos. After each cell has been replaced with a smaller matching photo from the pool, we then overlay a half-toned or semi-transparent version of the original source image. This ensures that the original source image will be visible from a distance but does not hide the details of the new composition of images. It is a truly amazing effect that allows hundreds of smaller images to come together seamlessly as a unique work of art!

We generally require 7-10 business days to complete most projects from the time we receieve all of your materials. This time frame is necessary to ensure ample time for all processing and to account for any changes that may be needed. This timeframe does not include shipping times. Foto Flashbacks is committed to providing the highest quality of service but we will not sacrifice quality or creativity to rush our orders.

You can send us any type of photos. Digital photos are naturally faster to work with and need to be submitted as .jpg files. Digital photos also generally have the highest image quality and produce the best results, but we can easily scan your old Hard copy photos in high resolution and even scan your photo slides. We will include a CD-r with all of your scans as .jpg files Free of Charge.

Though it is possible to make a mosaic with as little as 20 photos, we find that the more photos you have the better. Having more photos to choose from ensures the best match and uniqueness for each cell and prevents an overly repetitious effect. Our recommendation for the best overall quality and presentation is to submit 250 or more photos.

In cases where we feel we need more photos for the quality of the project, we will use stock photos as a substitute. These images are generally non-descript scenery and without people to ensure that there are no distractions from your own family photo submissions.

We recommend using images with brighter backgrounds or backgrounds that are not too busy. This ensures that the focus of the subject stands out from the background and will have a better end result in the artwork.

Absolutely! Once we have finished designing your artwork, we will show you a digital preview. If you are not 100% satisfied with the design, we will work with you and make any changes necessary to ensure the best quality image before printing.
