So what is a Fotosaic? What is a Photo Mosaic?

The concept of the mosaic art has evolved from a 9th century art form called Micrography, which utilized small letters or symbols to create larger images. So a Photo Mosaic is created out of a picture that is divided into many smaller sections. Each section is then replaced by a smaller photograph matching the color and tones of the original section. When viewed from a distance the small individual images combine to create the appearance of the original singular image, but when up close it is visible that the image is really made up of hundreds or even thousands of smaller photos.

Our process improves on these fundamentals to create a mosaic that is color and contrast matched almost identical to the original image regardless of the individual tile photos that are being used. We call our implementation of this art form the Fotosaic!
